The 100 Fine Gentlemen of Oceanside Who Give a Damn are one of a number of groups in the area based on a similar idea.
Members agree to donate $100 to charity 4 times a year.
Every quarter they meet and vote on what charity will receive those funds, which founder Kim Burden says are currently over $15, 000 each time the group meets.
Burden says the group has donated to SOS, The Arrowsmith Search and Rescue Society, The VI Prostate Centre, and a number of other groups.
Charities that receive funds have to make a presentation at the group’s next meeting. Burden says the impact of a donation to the Arrosmith Healthcare Society really stuck with him.
He says funds were used to enhance a program for seniors with alzheimer’s.
“They brought the community to them in terms of creating gardens for [seniors] where they could actually do the gardening and where they could bring people in to help them,” he said.
“That resonated with me significantly.”
