Campbell River resident Ashley Kendrick spoke about the relationships she tries to create with parents when fulfilling the role of a foster parent.
“You’re not trying to replace [parents]. You’re not trying to step in and steal their kids. You want their kids to go home. You’re wanting to foster that relationship and you create space for it,” she said.
“They are the experts of their kids. if we, are wanting to know, you know, Oh, your, your kid came home really anxious about this. What do you think we should do? What do you suggest? What’s helped. And you just kind of remind them that you’re trusting them and you give them back that power.”
Kendrick shared some of her personal and professional experiences in the foster system in an interview with People First Radio.
