A group of Ontario school boards have filed a lawsuit against the operators of Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Tik Tok.

The boards claim that social media products, which they say are designed for compulsive use, have impacted the way children think, behave, and learn.

They say that they are bearing the brunt of what they describe as a learning and mental health epidemic, one they argue is caused by the alleged negligent conduct of social media companies.

Sachin Maharaj is an assistant professor of educational leadership, policy and program evaluation at the University of Ottawa. He’s written about the lawsuits in The Conversation, and he joined People First Radio to share his thoughts.
